Shinto is the indigenous religion of Japan which focuses on nature worship without an organized body of teaching and a recognized founder.
However from the late 19th century until the middle of 20th century, Shinto became the state religion that deifies the Emperor.
Before and during World War II ,religion was used as a tool to deify the Emperor and mobilize the nation for the war. But today, the practice of religion was separated from the functions of the state, limiting worship only to local shrines.
Izumo Taisha is one of the oldest shrines with the renowned gigantic twisted straw rope or Shimenawa ,rebuilt in 1744,which is dedicated to the Shinto deity Okuninushi no Mikoto
, Master of the Great Land.
