Japanese indigenous religion ,Shintoism , has no recognized founder nor any organized body of teaching which focuses on ancester and nature worship.
As the religious beliefs are considered as traditional custom which handed down from generation to generation. This has developed great tolerance for other religions.
Buddhism, has the founder, who was not the absolute ,almighty god.
This has also contributed to Japanese tolerance toward other religions.
Those are the reasons why Japanese religious orientation is eclectic.
Torii , which consists of two pillars and two cross bars that stand as a symbol is a gate to the entrance of Shinto shrine where a pair of stone statuettes of guardian dog or lion
are placed facing each other to ward off evil spirits.
